March 2014 was a milestone for this crowdfunding platform as they surpassed $1 billion in pledges. Established artists utilize the service of Kickstarter, but the vast majority are independent artists looking for financial assistance, enabling them to record and release their music.

When your favourite band sends out a request for crowdfundng on Kickstarter, or the popular Indiegogo site, consider supporting them. By doing so each of us can make an impact on the independent music scene and keep the diversity in music alive.
